Surrounding Area

Campofilone

Borgo Della Nave is built on the edge of the village of Campofilone which is 2km inland from the coastal town of Pedaso.

The village has a population of just 2,000 but despite this is famous across Italy for its high quality hand made pasta. We recently saw pasta from Campofilone stocked in Harrods and in Dean & De Luca in New York.

Campofilone

The village is just two minutes by car or five minutes on foot. In the village we have a supermarket, a green grocer, a baker, a post office and some pasta shops selling the locally made speciality macheroncini. There are two bars and a number of restaurants.

The top of the village has a fortified belvedere behind the imposing church and the views from here are stunning.

The breathtaking inland mountainous regions are mostly limestone and are noted for their bare peaks, rushing torrents, dramatic gorges and many complexes of caves.

Amongst these are the beautiful Grotta at Frasassi, one of the most dramatic complexes of stalagmites and Stalactites in Europe. In contrast the areas near the coastal plain are celebrated for their fertile rounded hills topped with magnificent and ancient fortified towns.

Mountains & Skiing

On the border with Umbria lies the jewel in the crown of Central Italian mountain ranges – the Monte Sibillini National Park. Carved from the ancient limestone by massive glaciers the mountains and valleys are rich in rare fauna and flora, friendly towns and villages and ancient churches.

The magnificent landscape of the Sibillini Mountains is a nature lover’s paradise: home to bears, wild mountain cats, golden eagles and peregrine falcons.

The Sibillini Mountains provide the ideal setting for a range of outdoor activities including walking, mountain-biking and horse-riding in the summer and skiing in the winter.

Head for Sassotetto if you want to try your hand at cross country, downhill skiing or snowboarding – lessons and equipment are available with lifts and passes from Sarnano, which has nine pistes and lifts.

Monte Piselli has four lifts and a drop of 290m.

You can find useful information on some of the local skiing amenities in the Marche Region at www.scimarche.it.

Beaches

The Marche region is 180 kilometres of Adriatic coastline and boasts numerous inviting seaside resorts and one of the highest numbers of Blue Flag beaches of any region in Italy. There are eleven towns which were identified with Blue Flag beaches, three of which are within 25 minutes of Borgo Della Nave: Porto San Giorgio, Grottamare and San Benedetto del Tronto.
