The Marche Region

The Marche region forms the eastern seaboard of central Italy with the regions of Emilia-Romagna to the north and Abruzzo to the south. From the relatively narrow coastal plains the land rises sharply to the peaks of the Apennines which form a natural boundary with Umbria and Tuscany to the west.

Few countries of the world are suffused which such a strong sense of historical continuity as Italy.

From the myths that surround the birth of the Etruscan civilisation to the foundation of united Italy in the nineteenth century, past and present are linked in a seamless web that stretches back over three millennia.

The coastal areas are populated. However as one travels inland, it can be found that the beautiful countryside is sparsely inhabited and dotted with historic hill towns. This is a region where children still play in the street and door keys are left in the doors

The total population of the region is about 1.5 million people.
