San Benedetto Tronto (Blue Flag Beach)
San Benedetto del Tronto is one of the main holiday resorts of the Southern Marche Region and boasts over 7,000 palm trees on its wide promenade giving the town a touch of tropical charm.
It is also a thriving town that doubles as one of the most important fishing ports of Italy’s Adriatic coast.In summer this is a popular resort and with 8 kilometres of sandy beach there is plenty of space for everyone.
San Benedetto del Tronto has a great deal of old world elegance as well as being a lively place with a bustling night life. The older part of the town sits above the main resort on the far side of Corso Mazzini with its castle and narrow streets of brick houses.
The inhabitants of San Benedetto del Tronto also take the eating of fish seriously and there are plenty of moderately priced restaurants to satisfy their demanding taste. Fermo
This medieval town some 15km from Campofilone is dominated by the magnificent Duomo and affords from its breezy heights wonderful views west to Mount Sibillini. The town centre has a wonderful piazza with bars and restaurants in which to watch life go by. There is also an opera house and a theatre. In the summer the Villa Vitali hosts a season of outdoor opera. It is also possible to explore the Roman crypts underneath the Duomo or just wander the narrow streets of this beautiful town.
Torre San Patrizio
Located some 35 minutes from Campofilone this area is the centre of the Italian shoe manufacturing industry. Many of the factories offer an opportunity to purchase and, some will show you the handmade manufacturing process for yourself.
Urbino
One of the most spectacular capitals of the renaissance period, Urbino sits inland c. 36 km from the Adriatic coastline-and is accessible from the main A14 motorway linking all the main cities on the east coast including Bologna, Ancona and Pescara.The city with its steep roads and magnificent architecture bears witness to the splendour of what was once the court of the Montefeltro family and is home to the most important university in the Marche Region. It was also home to the painter Raphael. Visit the Ducal Palace and the Cathedral with its neo-classical façade or simply sit in the main Piazza and enjoy this beautiful place on a summer evening.
Ascoli Piceno
This is a beautiful medieval town south of Campofilone-some 30km down the main A14 motorway and situated in a large valley with magnificent mountain views. This town is another example of Italy’s rich renaissance architectural heritage and visitors must enjoy the Piazza Arringo which is paved in marble and has as its centrepiece a magnificent statue of sea horses. A drink in the famous Bar Melletti, converted from a post office in the 1930’s is a wonderful way of observing the magic of this town.
Torre Di Palme
Situated high on a rocky hill only 15 minutes from Campofilone, Torre Di Palme affords fabulous views from its tiny open piazza towards the sea and is an ideal short hop destination from Borgo Della Nave for lunch, dinner or an aperitivo. Torre Di Palme is a beautiful village popular in summer with Italian visitors also-but no one could not help be captivated by its dramatic location. |
